The Enemy Next Door

Oh no! I left my bongos over there! I had to retrieve them. Perhaps I would be safe under the cover of darkness as I crept beyond the gate, into enemy territory. After all, I couldn't leave my precious bongos. I vowed never to venture through this gate again, but this was a recovery mission. I had no choice. I pushed the wooden gate open, ever so slowly, as to not alert the enemy. The moon shone brightly in the clear night sky, hopefully not giving away my position. I stepped over to the picnic table where I had left my drums. I grabbed them, and headed back; through the driveway, and to the gate. I felt a strange, evil presence as I snuck to my exit. Apparently that vague, dark feeling was just remnants of the enemy that dwells here. The opaque demon has taken over this place. With his lies and manipulation, he has single-handily conquered this castle. The king and queen have fallen into his trap, but I know the true evil that now resides over this castle. He grins at me from behind "his" gate... His shallow grin indicates that he has won, and there is nothing I can do about it... If they could only see him like I do... Perhaps then they could re-claim their lost lives... But instead, they placate him. They spoon-feed him empathy. They nestle his insecurities, and feel sorry for him. Playing on their sympathies, he is triumphant. It is all so clear to me, but this common knowledge is lost on the king and queen, who simply turn a blind eye; and are now prisoners of him and themselves. I hope someday they will see the demon for what he is, and escape his disingenuous plans; or maybe he will eventually grow tired, and move on to take over someone else's lives. At any rate, at least I got my bongos back...
