I plug in my headphones to drown out the surrounding world, as I absorb myself in my work.
It's 7:00 AM and I'm still numb from waking before dawn... I eagerly await the effects of caffeine to kick in.
As a Mozart symphony privately plays in my ears, my mind swirls with complex medical terms and an endless sea of surgical codes... By the afternoons, my mind is mainly mush... Today I am working overtime... It's going to be a long day... I glance up at a picture of my smiling daughters for motivation... I am reminded of that long stretch when I wasn't working at all, and I am thankful to have the opportunity to earn some extra money this week. I walk down the stairs and into the parking lot to take an unsanctioned smoke break. I think to myself that despite all the chaos, drama, and insanity in my life, that in general, things really aren't that bad... I'm on the right side of the ground and I have beautiful kids... - Well, my break is over... Back to work...
