Shadows

I force my eyes open from my disturbing dreams…
I peek over the blankets, nervously... Cautiously....
Nothing is ever as it seems…
An eerie shadow dances from the flickering flame…
The licking, taunting flame… A flame I just wish would die, and let me sleep through all my pain…
Haunting silhouettes merge together; forcing my eyes to shut once again…
Is it all in my head; these seamless images carrying over from my restless bed?
I want nothing more than to awaken again…
To ignore what's within...
To make this night end…
